2 Still without a Formula One drive, Nelson Piquet announces he will be running a Formula 3000 team under his name for 1992.
3 There is uproar in the Formula One world when Benetton owner, Luciano Benetton announces in Uruguay that Alain Prost will be driving for the team in 1992. He then claims, Michael Schumacher will be transferred to Ferrari whilst Jean Alesi will move to Jordan. This is immediately denied by Prost and Benetton team principal Flavio Briatore who had already contracted Schumacher until the end of 1995.

After concern that Larrousse would pull out of Formula One in 1992, team principal Gérard Larrousse announces a technical partnership with French sportscar manufacturer, Venturi to save the team. Venturi and their subsidary Fomet 1 who had previously designed the 1991 Fondmetal would manufacture Larrousse's 1992 chassis. 

Four time winner in the 1991 Formula 3000 championship, Emanuele Naspetti announces he was unable to find a drive in his hope for driving in Formula One for 1992 and commits to another season of Formula 3000.
9 Minardi announce that Gianni Morbidelli has retained his drive at the team for the 1992 season. He will partner debutant, Christian Fittipaldi.
10 After his terrible injuries at Jerez in 1990, Martin Donnelly sets up a Formula Vauxhall team as team manager. His hopes of returning to Formula One, let alone any form of racing as a driver are very slim.
13 Nelson Piquet annnounces that in failing to find a seat that is capable of challenging for the world championship, he will not be racing in Formula One in 1992.
14 After sources assumed this was an announcement of his retirement, Piquet clarrifies that he is still willing to race if he can find a competitive car. Rumours continue that Ferrari are still possibly interested in signing him for the season.
New Formula One team, Andrea Moda announce their car will be built by Simtek Research in Branbury, UK. 
15 The new Ferrari powered Dallara BMS192 entered by BMS Italia is launched in Brescia, Italy. JJ Lehto and Pierluigi Martini will run for the team.
18 Ligier release images of its new Ligier JS37 for 1992. Guy Ligier is confident with its new Renault power that it will return the team to the front and be within a second of leading Renault powered team, Williams. Thierry Boutsen remains the only signed driver. Ligier is hopeful contractual negotiations can be achieved to sign Alain Prost but in failing that Érik Comas will be re-signed for 1992. Prost is also believed to be in negotiation for purchasing the Ligier team for himself.
19 Ron Dennis urges Alain Prost to not quit Formula One. He suggests that he take a sabbatical for 1992 and McLaren would offer him a contract for 1993. 
A test session at Paul Ricard commences. Williams tester Damon Hill leads the timesheets ahead of teammate Riccardo Patrese. At Ligier, Alain Prost participates in the test disguised with Comas's helmet. It fools noone however when Prost breaks down out on circuit and the disguise is revealed. Christian Fittipaldi gets his maiden outing in a Minardi whilst Andrea Montermini has an outing in a 1991 Larrousse. Montermini being assessed for a potential 1992 race drive.
22 Jordan unveils its 1992 challenger, the Jordan 192 at his new base opposite Silverstone. It is given a three lap shakedown by driver Stefano Modena in the evening. The second driver is yet to be named but Alessandro Zanardi is looking to be a likely candidate.
Andrea Moda team principal Andrea Sassetti announces its first driver to be Alex Caffi. The team confirm to be running to cars in 1992.
23 Hiroyuki Kaneda, formerly a senior Honda employee is signed by rival engine manufacturer Judd to work on their new GV V10 project. Judd supplying Brabham and Andrea Moda for 1992.
Michele Alboreto gives the new Footwork FA13 its first shakedown run at Silverstone.
Frank Williams believes 1992 is finally Nigel Mansell's chance to win the world championship. He has however commanded him to lose 3 quarters of a stone of weight. Mansell going through a vigorous training regime at his home in Florida, USA to improve his fitness and prepare for the 1992 season.
26 Alain Prost is back testing for the Ligier team at Paul Ricard. He sets a new lap record at the circuit, the Ligier car is looking capable for the season ahead. According to designer Frank Dernie, Prost was impressed with the Ligier and believed it capable of winning races.
29 Brabham have signed Japanese driver Akihiko Nakaya for 1992, however FISA refuses to grant him an F1 Superlicense. The governing body does not believe, Japanese Formula 3000 from which Nakaya has come from is an adequate stepping stone to Formula One.
30 With Nakaya having failed to get a superlicense, an F1 super license is granted to Giovanna Amati. Amati is believed to be Brabham's replacement signing and if so will become the first female driver in F1 since 1980. 
Following his rigorous training programme, Nigel Mansell believes he has never been in better shape to challenge Ayrton Senna for the title. Despite now being 39 years of age, Mansell says he remains motivated to race, his personal sponsership deals running until the end of 1994.
Former world champion Niki Lauda has confirmed that he is returning to Ferrari as an advisor and consultant for the team. Lauda had previously won titles with the team as a driver in 1975 and 1977. 
31 Tyrrell announces Olivier Grouillard to be racing for the team in 1992 as their first driver.

3 The Venturi-Larrousse LC92 is launched in Paris. Designed by Tino Belli and Robin Herd, the car had only been in development for 3 months. 
4 Mauricio Gugelmin is confirmed as Jordan's second driver for 1992. Gugelmin is confident in the Gary Anderson designed package and their new Yamaha engine.
Peter Sauber announces Michael Schumacher and Karl Wendlinger as drivers for the Sauber-Mercedes operation for 1993. This is in conflict with Schumacher's Benetton contract.
The deadline for the team's to finalise their driver line-up is February 5th. Despite conducting a third test at Estoril, Alain Prost still has not signed for Ligier. The team now being expected to be forced to sign Erik Comas as their driver. Aside from Ligier, Tyrrell, Venturi-Larrousse, Brabham,  Andrea Moda and March still haven't finalised their seats. F1 refugees, Bertrand Gachot, Andrea de Cesaris, Alessandro Zanardi, Emanuele Pirro, Mark Blundell, Eric van de Poele and Karl Wendlinger are still bidding for a driver for 1992.
5 As expected, Brabham announce Giovanna Amati as their driver alongside another pay driver Eric van de Poele. March retain Karl Wendlinger where he will be partnered by F3000 graduate Paul Belmondo. Venturi-Larrousse sign Bertrand Gachot, Andrea Moda signs Enrico Bertaggia  and Tyrrell take Alessandro Zanardi. Erik Comas is also confirmed as Ligier's second driver, however Guy Ligier maintains the belief that Alain Prost could be seen in the team for 1992. Andrea de Cesaris, Emanuele Pirro and Mark Blundell are seemingly out of work for 1992.
The dispute over Michael Schumacher's services for 1993 between Benetton and Sauber continue. Benetton maintain that Schumacher can only break contract with them if a works Mercedes team entered Formula One. Mercedes Sporting Director Jochen Neerpasch states that the deal existed between Sauber not Mercedes.
6 Despite the signing of Thierry Boutsen and Erik Comas, Guy Ligier confirms negotiations with Alain Prost are still ongoing. Prost may yet drive for the team in 1992.
Michael Schumacher cancells a test with Benetton in France to return to the team base in the United Kingdom. He is expected to have a meeting with Benetton bosses Flavio Briatore and Tom Walkinshaw to discuss his future following the dispute with Sauber.
10 Nigel Mansell has returned to Europe and conducted a 7 day test session with Williams at Estoril. He is confident in the team and feels he can win the world championship.
Jordan announces that South African oil giant Sasol will be the team's title sponsor for 1992. 
Toyota are interested in entering Formula One in the future. Out of work designer John Barnard has visited their Norfolk base in the UK to discuss a future F1 project.
12 The D- version of the Lotus 102 runs for the first time at Hethel.
13 Tyrrell signs a sponsership deal with Elf fuel for 1992. The company had previously been their lead sponsor between 1968 and 1978.
14 Tyrrell suddenly announce Andrea de Cesaris will now be racing for the team alongside Olivier Grouillard. Alessandro Zanardi suddenly finds he is out of work for 1992. 
15 With no competitive teams willing to take him, Nelson Piquet definitively quits Formula One. He instead announces he will be competing in the Indianapolis 500.
17 With Michael Schumacher being confirmed at Benetton for 1993, Alain Prost has now entered talks with the new Sauber entrant for the following season. 
24 Lotus find a new sponsership deal with Hitachi. Johnny Herbert and Mika Hakkinen both feel confident about the season ahead. The team running revamped Ford Cosworth engines for 1992. Former Lotus driver between 1969 and 1970, John Miles is recruited into the team in an engineering role. 
27 The 1992 South African Grand Prix weekend commences. Andrea Moda are disqualified from the event after one lap by Alex Caffi in practice. The team's first chassis had yet to be concluded and were now using out of date and illegal 1991 Coloni chassis. Nigel Mansell is 1.5 seconds quicker than his nearest rival in practice. 
28 Longines, the official time keeper of Formula One withdraws due to what it feels is a lack of environmental concerns from the sport.
29 Mansell takes a dominating pole in South Africa ahead of teammate Patrese. Ayrton Senna could only manage third fastest after spinning off in practice.

1 Nigel Mansell takes a dominating win in South Africa. Teammate Patrese is second followed by Senna, Schumacher, Berger and an impressive Johnny Herbert for Lotus. The Ferrari's both retire, engine problems are plagueing the team. 
2 Niki Lauda, now a Ferrari consultant tips Nigel Mansell to dominate the 1992 season.
After McLaren's crushing defeat to Williams, McLaren speeds up the development pace for their new MP4/7A. Mark Blundell and Allan McNish, the team's two test drivers are working flat-out in Silverstone to prepare the car.
3 Andrea Moda hope to have the S291 chassis, developed by Simtek ready for the Mexican Grand Prix. The team will otherwise have to sit out another race, their secondary Coloni chassis is not eligible to be entered. 
Lella Lombardi, Formula One's second female racer who competed between 1974 and 1976 has succumbed to cancer at the age of 50. 
4 Alain Prost may yet purchase and drive for the Ligier team. His demands hinge on the fact that Renault extends the team's engine deal until 1996. Renault however are feeling uncomfortable committing to a five year contract with the team.
