Formula One CareerEdit
Capelli made his début at the European Grand Prix at the new Nürburgring, being the second driver alongside Martin Brundle. He qualfiied 24th on the grid, 8 places behind his teammate, but retired from an accident on lap 44. For the next race at South Africa, the seat instead went to Philippe Streiff, but Capelli got the seat for the final race at the Australian Grand Prix, which he finished 4th on the race, his first points finish in his F1 career.
Capelli drove for two races for the French newcomer team AGS. In Italy, Capelli qualified 25th on the grid, 9 seconds off to polesitter Teo Fabi and ahead of both Osella cars. A tyre puncture on lap 31 prevented him from finishing the race. He qualified 25th again on the next race in Portugal, but retired from a transmission problem on lap 6.
Capelli signed for Jordan for the 1993 season alongside Rubens Barrichello, but after two poor races and failing to qualify for the Brazilian Grand Prix, his Formula One career was over, leading to him retiring from Formula One.
