France, officially the French Republic, is a sovereign country in Western Europe that includes overseas regions and territories. It is a highly successful nation in Formula One, having won four drivers' championships (all by Alain Prost). French constructors Matra and Renault have also won Constructors titles. Despite this, no French driver had won a Grand Prix for twenty-four years since 1996 when Olivier Panis won the Monaco Grand Prix, until Pierre Gasly won the Italian Grand Prix in 2020. The French Grand Prix was also held at a number of circuits since motor racing began. It has been held at the Circuit Paul Ricard since 2018.

Two Frenchmen are currently in Formula One: Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon.
