André Lotterer (born 19 November 1981 in Duisburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, West Germany) is a German racing driver. He served as a Jaguar test driver from 2002 and 2003 and drove for Caterham at the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix.
He competes in Super Formula (formerly Formula Nippon) for TOM'S and the FIA World Endurance Championship for Audi. He is a three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, doing so in 2011, 2012 and 2014.
Formula One Career[]
Jaguar[]
Lotterer dominated both the 1998 Formula BMW Junior season and the 1999 Formula BMW ADAC season, earning a test driver role with Jaguar in 2002. Lotterer remained as a test driver for two years, but despite Jaguar replacing both drivers at the for 2003, Lotterer did not get a drive and strayed away from F1.
In-between drives[]
Lotterer began to drive in Formula Nippon (now Super Formula), a series he continues to compete in. He has finished in the top five in the championship every season he has competed, winning the series in 2011. He also competed in JGTC/Super GT from 2003 to 2011, winning the title in 2006 and 2009.
He drove he first 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2009, in a Kolles-entered Audi, finishing 7th. He joined the factory team (Joest Racing) the next year, finishing second, and winning the event in 2011, 2012 and 2014 with Marcel Fässler and Benoît Tréluyer.
In 2012, while racing for Audi, Lotterer began to race in the World Endurance Championship, winning the title in 2012 and finishing second in 2013.
Caterham[]
Twelve years after last testing for Jaguar, Lotterer was finally given an opportunity to make his F1 début, replacing Kamui Kobayashi for a sole race, the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix.
Lotterer started well, posting a better time than teammate Marcus Ericsson in the first practice session, but the Swede got the better of the German in the other two. Come qualifying, it was wet, and Lotterer managed to qualify 21st, about a second ahead of Ericsson.
The race was a disappointment, however, as Lotterer failed to finish, retiring on the second lap with engine problems.
He was offered a return for the final race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but declined.
