The 2006 Australian Grand Prix (officially LXXI Foster's Australian Grand Prix) was race number 3 of the 2006 Formula One Season. It took place at the Albert Park Circuit on April 2 2006. The race was won by Renault F1 driver Fernando Alonso with Kimi Räikkönen for McLaren-Mercedes in second and Ralf Schumacher of Toyota in third.

It was also notable for being held on the 80th birthday of Australian three-time champion Jack Brabham, and for being Ferrari's last double-DNF to date in which neither driver was classified.

RaceEdit

Fernando Alonso won for the second time in 2006, after Jenson Button's Honda blew up at the final corner, after starting from pole. Scott Speed was docked his first point (and what would have been the first for an American since 1993) for ignoring yellow flags. Thus, David Coulthard was promoted to eighth.
