The 2005 United States Grand Prix was the ninth race of the 2005 season, and one of the most controversial in the sport's history. As a result of a major accident in Practice, during which a Michelin tyre failed on Ralf Schumacher's car which forced him into the wall at high speed, all Michelin based teams pulled out of the race on safety grounds. This left the three remaining teams, only six drivers, to start the race.

The race was won by Michael Schumacher from the front of the grid (having qualified 5th). Second place went to Rubens Barrichello and third was Tiago Monteiro, the only podium finish of his career.
